Juneau
No roads connect Alaska’s capital city to the rest of North America, yet Juneau is the second most populous metropolitan area in that State and home to roughly 100,000 residents. Those wishing to visit here arrive either by air or by sea.
While it’s possible to include Juneau on a day trip from either Haines or Skagway, there’ll be little opportunity to see all that Juneau has to offer. A fast ferry offers day cruise packages, one-way fares and roundtrip/overnight options. If you have a limited amount of time to spend in Juneau, take the tram ride up Mount Roberts for a panoramic perspective of Juneau, the mountains and surrounds. Those with more energy might like to hike it all the way or just hike to the top from the tramway terminus.
Staying a couple of days will give you the opportunity to visit the Mendenhall Glacier and more of nature’s other attractions in the area.
Cruise ships dock in Juneau throughout the summer so there’s no shortage of tour companies willing to take you to other places of interest in Juneau. When you’ve seen what you came to see, the fast ferry or the Alaska Marine Highway ferry will take you back to your RV.

The Mount Roberts Tramway whisks visitors up almost 2,000 feet from Juneau's cruise docks in just six minutes.
