48 Hours in Banff... Without Skis
Fridays in Banff are for Skating & Summits
Lace up and kick off your weekend atop one of Banff’s many ice rinks. In town, you’ll find skating rinks at the Banff Recreations Grounds as well as Fenlands Meadow near the rec centre, where you can also rent a pair of skates.
Another must-visit for skating is behind the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise — an iconic place to stride and glide among stunning mountain scenery.
Two Jack Lake and Lake Minnewanka are two more spectacular spots for “natural ice” skating. Just check with Parks Canada for conditions before you go.
After marveling at Banff's beauty from below, it’s time to see it from above. Ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain at the Banff Gondola and enjoy the snow-capped views from 2,281 metres above sea level. Then, dine at either the Northern Lights Alpine Kitchen or Sky Bistro on the mountaintop.
The exploration doesn’t stop after dark. Nightrise transforms the summit building under the moonlit sky, with four immersive art installations to discover, plus events throughout the season. What will you discover at the top?
Saturdays in Banff are for Relaxing
Venture out when the day wakes you and stroll Banff Avenue in search of the perfect latte. (We recommend Good Earth Café or Whitebark Café.)
Spend your day browsing downtown’s charming shops and museums. The Whyte Museum has a wonderful collection of art and photography that will transport you through Canadian Rockies’ history and into the hearts of its trailblazing mountaineers.
As the afternoon wears on, why not celebrate a relaxed winter day with fondue? The Grizzly House on Banff Avenue is a classic place to dip into the mountain town tradition. Or head to the Wauldhaus Restaurant at the Fairmont Banff Springs for a tucked-away Bavarian experience. No matter where you dine, be sure to fuel up. Tomorrow you’re going snowshoeing!
Sundays in Banff are for Snowshoes... And the Spa
Among the 6,000 square kilometres of mountain wilderness in Banff National Park, you’ll find many great places to snowshoe. This fun activity suits any level of fitness and, like ice skating, is easy on the gear. Rent your shoes through SnowTips-Bactrax and decide on a spot using Parks Canada’s Winter Trails Guide. Be sure to check weather and trail reports ahead of time.
After your snowshoeing adventures, you’ve earned a trip to the spa. Soothe your winter-weary soul at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel Spa. The mineral pool is fit for royalty — the perfect way to end a no-fuss, high-class weekend.
We hope that Banff is on your bucket list this winter! Book your Winter Ready Maxi Motorhome and get ready to spend the best 48 hours in Banff this winter.
