Now that the Canada/USA land border has reopened for leisure travel, many of you will be itching to head south across the border. For vaccinated adults travelling without kids, the only requirement for returning to Canada is a negative pre-arrival PCR test with no follow-up testing required unless you develop symptoms.
For families with unvaccinated children however, it's a little more involved. Sure, the unvaccinated kids still need that negative pre-arrival PCR test, but there's a few more steps they'll need to take.
On arrival back in Canada, whether by air or land, the kids will need to either take an arrival test or be given a self-swab kit. They'll also receive a self-swab kit to be done on Day 8. While quarantine isn't a requirement, current rules don't allow them to return to school or day care or engage in any other group-based activity for 14 days after returning to Canada. Other restrictions are laid out in the Government of Canada's COVID-19 Requirements for unvaccinated children less than 12 years of age.
Keeping the kids occupied at home for those 14 days can be a challenge and it often requires at least one parent to be with them throughout. That parent may be using up valuable vacation days.
So, while this requirement is in place for unvaccinated children, why not stay in Canada and make those vacation days count?
Pack up your kids, pets, toys and anything else you simply can't live without and head off on a family RV adventure in Canada and have peace of mind that your children can return to school right after you return home. The kids won't be complaining they have nothing to do, and the shared family experience will provide memories for years to come. Have you ever been snowshoeing as a family? Ice skating? Taken a winter hike? Toasted s'mores over a roaring campfire surrounded by snow? There's never been a better time to try it!
