Golden
It ‘s the perfect jumping off point to explore six of Canada’s stunning National Parks – a town with only 4000 permanent residents right in the heart of Kicking Horse Country.
Like many Canadian towns, Golden owes its existence to the railroad, having been established in 1882 as a basecamp for the Canadian Pacific Railway in its westward expansion. Today the railroad still influences the town’s economy. With so much to see and do in Golden and its surrounding areas, the difficulty will lie in having to choose. Summertime brings great weather – an ideal time for wildlife watching, river adventures, hiking, mountain biking, climbing and family fun. Winter brings the opportunity for snow sports – skiers flock to nearby Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for great powder skiing and snowboarding while others opt to participate in cross-country, snow-shoeing, sledding and other level-ground pursuits.
If walking with wolves in their natural habitat is on your bucket list, the Northern Lights Wolf Centre has you covered.
The centre is one of few places in North America to provide the public with this opportunity.
Don’t forget to check out the longest freestanding pedestrian timber frame bridge in Canada which crosses the Kicking Horse River, connecting the north and south sections of 8th Avenue. For a town of its size, Golden has more than its fair share of award winning restaurants. Here you can experience authentic rustic fine dining before tucking in for the night in your RV at your chosen Golden campground.
Whether you choose to travel in summer or winter, Golden rules!
