Skagway
Home to gold-rush era buildings, now preserved as part of a National Historical Park, Skagway plays host to close to a million visitors each Summer, mostly visiting on cruise ships.
Skagway is a popular stop on our Golden Circle RV itinerary starting from our Whitehorse location. Skagway is reached from the east via the South Klondike Highway from Carcross, travelling through spectacular river and mountain scenery en route to Skagway and crossing the US border just west of Fraser. From the east. the Alaska Marine Highway ferry takes around 1.5 hours to get you to the port of Skagway.
The town has both original and replica gold-rush era buildings and is easy to walk around.
On any given day in the summer, a number of cruise ships will be docked at the port so your visit here will not be laid back. If you're staying a few days in the town, explore the surrounding areas - there is great hiking here - then come back to the town once the rush has died down. There are a number of campgrounds handy to town so walking is always an option.
