With an area population of around 100,000, Fairbanks is a small city by U.S. standards but is the second largest in Alaska.

Lying alongside the Chena River, the city dates back to 1901 when the SS Lavelle Young cruised up the Tanana River with supplies bound for the Tanacross goldfields. The construction of the Alaska Railroad and the discovery of oil to the north greatly contributed to Fairbanks' growth.

Fairbanks is a popular destination for Guests who rent an RV from our Whitehorse location.

The highway travels west from Tetlin Junction, passing through varied landscape before arriving in Fairbanks. A wide range of activities are available for visitors to Fairbanks, both indoor and outdoor with summer bringing more than 22 hours of daylight to enjoy them. A visit to the Chena River State Recreation Area provides opportunities for canoeing, kayaking , hiking, rafting, wildlife viewing, hot springs and much more. Book a campsite here and enjoy the Park's peaceful surroundings. From Fairbanks, it's an easy drive to Denali National Park - a definite "must see" on your RV road trip to Alaska.

Home to the Yukon Quest

The Yukon Quest is an international 1,000 mile sled dog race which alternates its starting and finishing points each year between Fairbanks, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon.  Fairbanks' is the race's home base.
